Definately considering buying Guild Wars
I came across Guild Wars while I was desperately trying to find a mmorpg with less grinding (I swear if I have to kill another 80 banchees I'll scream) and a storyline rather than..."go kill some random stuff". I've already downloaded the free trial of Guild Wars and I have to admit I like it. I really like the fact you can pick a secondary profession. Fire-using archer...whoo! There's a couple of titles but I'm not sure which one to get (I know there's a guide on that.)
Which one: Has less pointless grinding, no pvp where you'll get randomly pked for no reason, interesting storyline, has an environment that isn't copied by Chinese myth (Perfect world, for example) or other timelines. I'm running on Windows 7 and the free trial runs fine on it...and by my surprise my weak graphics card. |

Well, any title has a certain amount of "grind" to it, but many of them are, at least, not so repetitive. For example, the Vanquisher titles require you to vanquish every area in a campaign, but at least you only vanquish each area once, instead of doing the same vanquish over and over. Similarly, the Guardian/Protector, Cartographer, and Skill Hunter Titles require you to do all of something, but not the same thing over and over.
On the other hand, for example, the Luxon/Kurzick or Asura/Vanguard/Norn/Delver titles require that you grind away to accumulate points. http://www.guildwiki.org/Title Last edited by Quaker; Aug 25, 2011 at 06:37 PM // 18:37.. |

Would it be possible to buy the first Guild Wars and get the Eye of the North Expansion?
One simple question... Where can I find the armor merchants in the towns? I see the weapons but not the armor. I guess I should run around a little more? |

He meant title as in which copy of the game to get, ie. Prophecies, Factions...
I would suggest getting Prophecies first, as it's the first game story-wise, has a slower learning curve allowing you to figure the game out before you hit the harder content. Eye of the North is an 'expansion', that time-wise takes place after all three other campaigns, but takes place in the same relative areas as Prophecies, and gives you Heroes, access to inscribable weapons, and the Hall of Monuments (if you're planing on earning rewards for Guild Wars 2, Eye of the North is mandatory). If you're a huge stickler for story then get this last, but if you're a tad flexible, then I'd say get this right after Prophecies. Next comes Factions, the second campaign story-wise, which is quite a bit harder and shorter than Proph. Lastly (if you've already bought EotN is Nightfall, which has a great story, is nearly as big land-wise as Prophecies, and also has more Heroes to collect. Edit: Yes, you can get EotN as long as you have any one, two, or all three of the three full campaigns. Armor crafters usually have [armor] after their names, but if you're still in the pretty-style Ascalon training area, then armor is acquired from collectors and not crafters (once you leave the 'starting area', there will be both collectors and crafters) Edit2: If you do get the game, hit me up (Syllibus Pendragon) and I can hang out and help a bit if I'm online. GW2 won't be out till next year. He has plenty of time to play the game if he's doing it because he thinks it's fun. The HoM isn't the only reason to play the game!

Buy trilogy then eye of the north. Or buy the complete collection.
Trilogy:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832784008 / http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Tri...4300457&sr=8-1 +EoTN: http://www.amazon.com/GUILD-WARS-EYE.../dp/B000WJOYAQ ..or Complete Collection:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Guild-Wars...Games/14660281 At one point the trilogy was $15 on Gamestop/BestBuy and EOTN was $6 on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...6&SID=FWa32a8i) So if you can wait a bit then I'd just wait for a sale (if that's even possible). There should be plenty of time to at least beat the storyline, maybe get a few titles and/or points in the HoM before GW2 comes out. Plus, you know, he'll have a better understanding of the story than if he went into GW2 cold....and of course there's the fact that GW1 is still fun for people starting out who haven't beaten everything 50 times already.

There are players who keep characters in the Prophecies tutorial area on a permanent basis (so many that ArenaNet made a title that they can achieve). They, in general, are very friendly and helpful, so feel free to ask questions in Ascalon City, District 1 at almost any time of day.

Welcome to Guild Wars! A very large game that you learn one simple bit at a time.
http://www.guildwiki.org/Main_Page is an important resource, one of the better wikis in gaming IMHO. |

Hmm, I think I'll stick with the first Guild Wars until Tera Online finally comes out. That'll feed my need for a good mmo. I think now I can finally say goodbye to Rohan.

You should really check out gw2, that is a MMO to wait for! http://www.guildwars2.com/en/media/videos/
As for which gw1 titles to buy; buy them all! They are cheap and have very different storylines. Plus you more or less need all in order to gain access to all skills, which is crucial in some sircumstances. Welcome to gw! |
